The ESN active inclusion working group concluded its planned programme of work following a series of four discussion forums in 2008. It brought together social directors and senior professionals in employment and activation services to address contemporary practice and strengthen ESN’s contribution to policy development in Europe.
This brochure presents the view of ESN members on managing active inclusion services at local level across Europe. They discuss the importance of listening to people, building local partnerships and supporting families.
Read the group’s report featuring case studies from across Europe on how to support and include people furthest from the labour market.
Be open to new experiences and leave prejudices behind,” says Agnes Simonyi, Director-General of the Institute for Social Policy and Labour, Hungary.
"Local public social services should encourage people to talk about their dreams, their lives and how they can realise their potential," says ESN director John Halloran, in a presentation at the Czech Presidency conference on Social Services – A Tool for Mobilising the Workforce and Strengthening Social Cohesion.
ESN underlines the role of social services in active inclusion in a letter sent to Ministers in response to the European Commission Recommendation on active inclusion. Read ESN letter.
